Correction

I just learned that we will not be going to 100 Oaks.  Instead we will be in East Nashville at East Park for the Turnip Truck dog event.  Sorry for the confusion and I hope to see alot of people out to meet Gabby.

Little Peaker

I just think this is the cutest picture of Gabby.  Sometimes she likes to peak at you around corners.  It is so endearing, which fits her.  She is just a really sweet dog who need to find her home.  She is just waiting for her forever family to come and get her.  On that note Gabby will be at the 100 Oaks Meet and Greet on Saturday, so come out and meet Gabby.

Info on Gabby

SOCIAL SKILLS

Knows name/answers to it: Yes, but sometimes ignores you
Comes when called: Most of the time
Understands “NO”: Yes
Plays with toys: Yes
Understands “GOOD”: I think so
Method of correction: A stern No or Out if she is somewhere she is not allowed

A really cute thing he/she does: She does this cross between a howl and a roo with a little barking mixed in to get your attention.

HOUSE MANNERS

Plays well with others (children, small dogs, cats, etc.): She plays well with the other hounds and other dogs over 20 pounds.  She is not cat safe, and Gabby is very curious about small dogs, so I do not think she is small dog safe.

Potty habits (asks to go out, problem times, etc.): She goes well on leash.  She has had some accidents in the house.  She gets herself worked up and it makes her more prone to accidents.  She does let you know she needs to go out.  She starts to pace a great deal, and sometimes she will do her roo/ howl sound as well.

Obeys house rules (off furniture and counters, garbage, doors, etc.):  She has never tried to get on the furniture, but she does push the rules some; the rule she has the most trouble with is the boundary rule.  She keeps trying to go into the kitchen where dogs are not allowed, but a firm out and she comes right out.

SLEEPING HABITS

Bedtime/wake up time: Bedtime around 9:30pm and wake up around 5:30am.  She is an early riser and sometimes gets up earlier if you just ignore her for a few minutes she will lay back down.

Where sleeps at night:  a bed on the floor in our bedroom

Crated (how long, when, feelings about crate):  I have left her in the crate for up to 6 hours, and she did fine.  I think she might be okay crated for a little longer.  She does not like being crated when she knows you are leaving, but that is more about being left then the crate.

PYCHOLOGICAL

Enjoys:  She likes her stuffies and squeakers, but you have to watch her a bit or she will try to eat the stuffing.

Fears:  She does not seem to have any.  Storms make her a little nervous but nothing too bad.

Reaction to new situations: She gets a little shy at meet and greets but not too anxious.  She likes people enough that she wants to get attention more then she gets nervous.

 DINNING PREFERENCES

Food (how prepared, brand, amount): She eats Nature’s Select and she gets 3 cups a day; 1 ½ in the morning and 1 ½ in the evening.  She likes her food and starts to get excited about eating about an hour before hand.

Favorite treats:  She loves any food and I have not run into a treat she will not eat.

EXTRAS TO KNOW

·         Gabby is a chewer.  She likes to chew on the arms or nubs of her toys until those pieces come off, and then she eats them.  While this is something to watch I think she would like an antler or something similar.

·      As mentioned earlier she pees when she gets excited, but she does let you know she need to go out.  Just watch her closely at first until you and her get a routine worked out.

·         She tends to run into things a lot, so do not be surprised if you hear a thud now and then.

·         She is really good about allowing you to do her nails.  In fact she lets us do her nails when she is lying down on the bed.

Gabby is still coming along nicely for us.  We are starting to get a better feel for her personality, and she is a diva.  She wants what she wants when she wants it, and to make you comply she does her roo/howl bit until you do it, or she finally realises its not going to happen and gives up.  The most common time she does this is around meal times (what greyhound doesn't love their food) and when my boys are on the beds she wants.

On a funner note she gave us our first experience with dogs activly watching TV, and she got the boys involved as well.  We got pictures and video.  Enjoy!
She found the dog!

Gabby's First Weeks

Gabby has been with us for two weeks and is getting along really well.  She is a happy hound who loves to be with people.  Within the first few days she was playing with toys, roaching and rooing.  She will do all her business on leash with no problem.  She has had a few house breaking issues that we are working through, but I hope to get those under control soon.  She has learned the stairs without any big mishaps, so that is helpful.  On the whole Gabby has been a really sweet easy girl in the house.  We just need to work on the house breaking and her rule and boundaries, and she will be ready to make someone a great pet.
